Housing Association Ieder1

In 2021-2022 the office of Woonbedrijf Ieder1 in Deventer was undergoing a large-scale renovation and sustainability project designed by I’M Architects. At the suggestion of the architect, part of the facade on the street side was reserved for an art object. M2uur bv was engaged by the client to coordinate and supervise the art process.

Young talent

An important wish was to give young talent a chance. First, we put out a call for entries. Except for the format (30 x 2 meters) and a relationship with housing, artists were free in material and form. From the many entries, three candidates were invited to develop their vision into a sketch design.

Sketch design

At the beginning of 2022, the artists were able to present and explain their sketch designs to the jury. The jury was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the designs. After ample deliberation, the design by brothers Lennart and Lauren Leerdam emerged as the winner.

Paperkites

Lennart and Lauren’s Paper Kites are abstract interpretations of facades. The columns of the building were chosen as the carriers of the work; in addition, the creators see the columns as the perfect connecting element to create a dialogue. The kites are abstract enough to achieve an autonomous result and concrete enough to be recognizable by a wide audience. In 2022, the work, consisting of steel and aluminum tubes, was realized on the facade.

Guidance and advice

From the initial idea to the assignment, the selection process, and the awarding of the contract, M2uur bv guided, coordinated and monitored the process. Thanks to our years of experience with the realization of art in public and semi-public spaces, we were able to serve both client and artists. We are proud of the result and are delighted that up-and-coming talent has been given such an opportunity to showcase their skills.
