Granite design for Thon Cecil Hotel
The façade of the Thon Cecil Hotel in Oslo is affected by loose granite. For safety reasons, the natural stone has been temporarily covered with mesh. In the meantime, research is underway to determine whether replacing the granite with Steni Vision panels could be a smart, sustainable solution. Commissioned by Steni AS, M2uur bv developed digital designs of the original granite.
The designs are printed on the Steni panels to retain the character of the current façade. The panels are considerably thinner and lighter than natural stone. This offers advantages in installation and weight and provides additional space behind the façade for insulation.
M2uur bv paid a site visit to Oslo to assess the produced samples. This was followed by a tour of two other projects in which we have been closely involved, accompanied by our dear friend and client Ståle Kristiansen.
The Sinsenveien Apartment Complex made a strong impression: 9,000 m² of uniquely printed façade panels featuring a wood design specifically designed for this project. No other building in the world is clad with this decor.
The tree ceiling in the new Frysjaparken apartment complex was also imposing and inspiring.
In short: a successful, inspiring and, above all, enjoyable working visit!
